Microsoft Demo Experience (MDX)

Repeatable Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, and Business Central demo tenants that never touch a customer’s production environment.

Microsoft Demo Experience (MDX), formerly Customer Digital Experiences (CDX), is how Microsoft partners stand up a fully controlled demo tenant. Gensten uses it to show Business Central together with Microsoft 365, Teams, Copilot, Power Platform, and Dynamics 365, in an Azure organization that belongs to the demo and not to production.

Engagement Overview

Partners who are enrolled in Microsoft Partner Center sign in at aka.ms/cdx, claim a tenant, pick a region, and start a demo. The tenant can include Microsoft 365 licenses, demo users, and a Business Central environment with the CRONUS demonstration company plus an empty company for the prospect’s own scenarios. MDX tenants are for demos and training. They expire, so they are not a place to run a real business.

Goal: Give every presales conversation a clean, current Microsoft tenant that can be reset, extended, and thrown away without risking production data.

Approach: Gensten picks the content pack for the story being told, claims a 90-day or one-year tenant, signs the administrator into a Business Central trial inside that tenant, then layers on the apps the demo actually needs: Teams, Outlook, Power Automate, Dynamics 365 Sales, or Contoso sample data. Edge profiles keep the partner account and the demo admin account separate.

Showing the full Microsoft stack without borrowing a production tenant

A partner’s own tenant holds real mail, files, and security settings. A prospect’s tenant is worse: one wrong click is their business. MDX exists so the demo has its own users, licenses, and Business Central companies, with a known expiration date and a hard limit on how many 90-day and one-year tenants an account can hold.

What We Deliver

  • Demo experiences for Dynamics 365 Business Central Demo, Dynamics 365 Business Central, and Microsoft 365 Business Premium Demo, in 90-day and one-year versions.
  • Shared core scenarios across those packs, with different Power Platform defaults for Dynamics 365 apps, Dataverse, and AI Builder.
  • Administrator access to the Microsoft 365 admin center: extra users, licenses, org profile, and connected apps.
  • Business Central admin center controls for extra environments, update windows, notification recipients, and preview environments.
  • Optional depth from Contoso Coffee demo data, connectivity apps, and Dynamics 365 Sales Professional.
  • A dashboard for content package, expiration, and admin credentials, plus daily and monthly limits on new tenants.

Service Scope

  • MDX tenant claim and region selection for a customer demo
  • Business Central trial signup inside the MDX tenant
  • Premium experience, sample company data, and scenario scripting
  • Teams, Outlook, Power Platform, and Marketplace app setup
  • Demo hygiene: update windows, credential handling, and tenant expiry

Expected Business Impact

Demos run in an independent tenant, so a prospect never sees another customer’s data.
The same story can be repeated: claim a tenant, load the content pack, and present.
Sellers can show Business Central next to Microsoft 365, Teams, and Copilot instead of ERP alone.
Update windows can be pinned so a Microsoft upgrade does not land in the middle of a demo.

Delivery Roadmap

Pick the content pack

Before the demo

Business Central Demo for an end-to-end Power Platform story, a simpler Business Central pack for validation, or Business Premium for a small and midsize business workflow.

Claim and enroll

Same day

Claim the tenant, note the admin credentials, and start the Business Central trial with that admin email.

Dress the environment

1–3 days

Set the company profile, enable Premium, add Contoso or prospect-shaped data, and connect the apps the story needs.

Present and retire

90 days or one year

Run the demo, then delete the tenant when it expires or when the story is done.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a prospect run their company inside an MDX tenant?

No. Microsoft is explicit that MDX environments are for demos and training. If the prospect wants to operate the business, they need their own Business Central trial or subscription. Data in an MDX tenant can disappear when the tenant expires.

How long does a demo tenant last?

Content packs come in 90-day and one-year versions. A Business Central trial started inside the tenant can follow a shorter trial clock, including a 30-day experience if you switch into the empty My Company, and that trial can be extended.

What do you need in order to create one?

An account enrolled in Microsoft Partner Center with MDX access. Tenants are capped per account, per day, and per month.
